#RobertLacquaniti...Toronto street Artist. Walked after 3 years of being paralyzed!
I was glad I bought this CN tower drawing from Robert Lacquaniti yesterday. After buying the original drawing for $10, he started telling me about his story.
He was a construction worker when he fell from 2nd floor. He was paralyzed for 3 years between 1994-97 (was 40 years old when it happened). He did not listen to the doctors who told him he will never walk again. He was determined to walk again and he did with his own effort.
He started drawing while he was at hospital and was making money selling drawings to doctors and nurses. He found a room in which he could draw and gather other patients around, who were previously all laying in bed.
He is homeless and lives in a shelter at age 63. He does not like being there as there are some people who take drugs. He likes to meet people. He wants to have a home for himself and not live in a shelter. This is Robert Lacquaniti's office. He was able to walk defeating what doctors told him and he wants to earn a living from drawing. Hope more will support him.
He was interviewed previously on TV. He needs more of that. I told him about a 17 year old girl who was on TV recently who takes pictures of homeless people then created a book with their stories. Not sure what her name is. I hope he will get featured in one of her books. She takes pictures while her dad interviews them and records their story. The revenue from her book sales go to support homeless people and their shelters.
He told me to write his story so I did. I am impressed by his determination. He has a very fine handwriting. Glad I got this drawing. Did not expect to hear his story. I just got it because I liked his CN Tower drawing. Will always remind me of determination. Hope he will make more money to support himself without a need to be in a shelter.
